Assistance Dog Changes a Child’s Life for the Better

dog and boy

It’s not easy living with special needs. For Lachlan Carnahan, a non-verbal kid with autism, his life changed when Lady came into his life. Lady is a special assistance dog. She’s specifically trained to show affection, understand, and protect the 12-year-old boy.

“Before we had Lady, Lachlan just would never want to interact with others, he wouldn’t want to go out and we did start spending a lot of time at home,” says Sam Carnahan, Lachlan’s father. Because of Lady’s presence, Lachlan has grown the confidence to go out and enjoy life beyond the walls of his home.

He and Lady have been featured on the front cover of “Friends inDEED”, a new book that tells stories of 41 assistance dogs and how they changed their owner’s life.
