Yoga Socializes Goats for Therapy

goat assisted therapy

You may have heard of goat-assisted therapy, in which goats are being used as part of therapy in senior care facilities, hospitals, and other therapeutic settings. Jen Schurman has experienced it when her goats kept her going after she was being treated for a tumor.

Today, Jen runs a rescue in Pickrell called Shepherd’s Rest Goat and Sheep Rescue. It’s mission is to rescue the goats, provide sanctuary, and also train them to provide animal-assisted therapy.

At Shepherd’s Rest, people can do yoga with goats. These yoga sessions do not just help people, but they’re also provide an opportunity for the goats to socialize as part of their animal therapy training.

Jen has an interesting realization. She says that the residents whom she worked with that didn’t want to do anything with therapy dogs were all over the goats!
