Part 1 of the 2018 Hero Dog Awards

Animals make our lives so much better, wouldn’t you agree? To show appreciation for the things they do, the American Humane Hero Dog Awards® will again be awarding American dog heroes. There are 7 categories:

Currently, two dogs have been nominated. Let’s meet Roxy, a bull terrier. She assists a war veteran diagnosed with PTSD. Roxy was nominated in the category for Service Dogs. For the Law Enforcement Dog category, a 13-year old German Shepherd mix was nominated.

Pet Ambulance for Emergency and Non-Emergency Situations

There’s an ambulance roaming around Upstate New York. It’s actually a licensed pet ambulance that provides pet transportation services for animals in need. Elizabeth Martinovic founded Adirondack Pet Emergency Transportation Services after being in an emergency situation and nobody was there to help her.

Inside the ambulance, you can find a pet stretcher, oxygen, and first-aid supplies. At present, Adirondack Pet Emergency Transportation Services staff members don’t have the license to perform procedures except for CPR. If you need to bring your pet to a vet or animal hospital, the ambulance will be there to transport you.

Pet owners can accompany their pets. Older individuals who find it hard to travel with their pets can also avail of the service. Non-emergency services include nail clipping, medication administration, and grooming.

Therapy Dog to Visit the Site of Florida School Shooting

Remember that school shooting in Florida where 17 were killed? The school is now going to get a visit from a therapy dog named River. River is a 3-month-old female Bernese mountain dog-poodle mix. He’s been adopted by Diana, a library media specialist who works at the place that sheltered the kids during the attack. Diana says that River will be helping them through a lot of struggle.
