No More License Fees for Veterans and Their Service Animals

walk-2670512_1920

After receiving numerous requests from veterans to waive license fees for service dogs, Rod Hill, the assistant city manager, told the council last November 10 about the problem. Now, veterans living at Chino Hills will not be required to pay license fees for guide dogs as the city develops a program with the Inland Valley Humane Society.

However, since emotional support, companion, and comfort animals aren’t listed under the Americans with Disabilities Act, their fees will not be waived. Ed Denzin, one of the residents of Chino Hills and founder of Service Animal Training also helped in making the fee waiving idea possible, He wrote a letter to the council last December. It said, “Other cities waive license fees for service dogs, and I figured it would be nice for Chino Hills to do the same.”

pexels-emrah-ayvali-1981111

The Greater Good Foundation Fiji is in need of financial assistance to support the caring of animals in their sanctuary at Ba. It costs $1.33 daily to feed each animal in the sanctuary. If possible, the non-profit organization is urging donors to sponsor a dog for $40/month.

A representative of the organization said that two of their fellow sanctuary guardians found a dog in a schoolyard with a serious eye infection as they went to feed the homeless dogs. The dog was given treatment and now shows signs of improvement.

If you are interested and willing to help, please call the Greater Good Foundation on 8640200 or visit their website.

Make-A-Wish Foundation Delivers Puppy With Supplies to a Teenager

It was just an ordinary Saturday at Northwest Las Vegas when cars started honking and neighbors waved. The cause of the commotion is just the celebration for the arrival of Casper, a Golden Retriever puppy, Lauren Cleveland’s new best friend.

Lauren was born with a type of neurofibromatosis – a brain tumor on her optic nerve. The condition has required her to undergo chemotherapy last year. As her father, Jason Cleveland said. He also stated that the tumor is feared to cause the 18-year-old to lose her eyesight eventually and Casper might be trained to be Lauren’s service dog in the future.

“I’m really thankful that we were able to bring him here today, and he’s going to have a nice loving home, hopefully forever,” said Lauren while standing outside her home and holding Casper.

woman-works-while-dog-watches

The Dutchess County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals asks you for assistance in giving beautiful sheltered dogs a fur-ever home. They currently are at maximum capacity and find it hard to shelter new rescue dogs. You can adopt the dogs to give them the love they deserve.

If the option of providing a home for these furry friends isn’t available, you can spread this information to family and friends through social media. Volunteers, monetary, and pet food donations are very welcome.

The DCSPCA is also in need of donated comforters and bedding for dog beds. You can drop the donations in the blue donation bin at the DCSPCA – 636 Violet Ave., Hyde Park, NY 12538. The bin is found outside close to the front door. For more inquiries, please call 845 452-7722.

Teenager Wants to Pay Tribute to Her Helpful Service Dog

dog-paws

For Charlotte Cleverly-Bisman, media attention isn’t new. Her birth has attracted international and local media attention for being her country’s youngest quadruple amputee. She survived a severe case of meningococcal disease. It wasn’t her desire to be in the headlines but this time, it’s different.

It’s all because of Callie, her black Labrador assistance dog. Charlotte was 10 years old when they first met and since then they have been inseparable. Pam and Perry, Charlotte’s parents were first concerned about giving her Callie as a young child but the 15-year-old girl had a natural affinity for animals.

“She likes to make people happy. There are lots of smiles on people’s faces when Callie arrives, and when she’s not around, everyone says ‘where’s Callie?’ She sort of makes people behave better,” said Charlotte.

Minnesotan Pet Retailer Introduces Two New Orthopedic Support Products for Dogs

pexels-brett-sayles-1154178

Two new products have just been launched last November 14 by Animal Ortho Care (AOC). A body lift and shoulder support for dogs. These two new dog support products will be added to AOC’s EMbrace line of orthopedic soft supports.

The body lift is for the purpose of assisting dogs to get over difficult obstacles such as stairways and getting into vehicles. Aneeta Boor Boor VP of Marketing & Advertising said, “We’ve had requests from customers to create a shoulder support, since many larger breeds are prone to conditions like shoulder dysplasia. The EMbrace Shoulder Support can be used for shoulder ligament sprains, dislocations, dysplasia, medial shoulder instability and post-surgical recovery. This support is beneficial for joint laxity, because it helps to limit motion.”

Australian Women’s Correctional Facility Has Its Inmate Train Dogs For Companion Animals

The Pups in Prison program in the Southern Queensland Correctional Centre is run by Assistance Dogs Australia (ADA). It is the first of its kind in the Australian prison system and female inmates have committed to the task of training the pups. Pups in Prison is also a Certificate III in Companion Animal Services.

Prison may not be a place where you can find happiness, but the presence of pups helps the women see positivity as they serve their sentences. Not to mention that their companion animal training gives them job opportunities when they rejoin society. The program’s facilitator, Peter Forbes said that next June, seven women will graduate as they complete the 9-month certificate program.

Some Adorable Facts About Animals You Haven’t Heard Of

cardinals-1125156_1920

Fact #1: Cheetahs are so shy that zoos have to provide them with their own emotional support dogs.

Fact #2: Capybaras are animals with high sociability. They get along with a lot of other animals. That includes chickens, dogs, llamas, ducks, cats, turtles, and rabbits.

Fact #3: The stomping seagulls do on grass is called a “Rain Dance”. The purpose of this dance is to mimic rain by vibrating the ground lightly. They aren’t shuffling. They’re luring earthworms and other bugs to the surface.

Fact #4: A study made at the University Of Chicago found that rats are capable of empathy just like us humans.

Fact #5: The Northern Cardinal might be the most “Romantic” of all bird species. They only mate with one partner for life, sing before nesting, fly together, and feed each other with seeds beak-to-beak during courtship. Whoever made them the Angry Birds mascot never did their research.

How Venezuelan Police Animals Aid Communities Aside From Crime-Fighting

pony-farm-5240419_1920

Dogs have been used for centuries by law enforcement agencies to track and attack criminals. The same goes for horses as these majestic creatures have been ridden to chase after outlaws. But like their handlers, horses and dogs have also evolved to perform more rules in keeping order in a community than just working on the frontlines.

A good example of these animals doing side-roles are the horses Ivan and Hercules of the Mounted Police Branch at Long Circular Road, Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago. During Carnivals, these horses are deployed as means for crowd-control.

Atom and Nacho are Belgian Malinois from the same police branch. Yet, their story is different. Instead of crowd control, their side-roles are school visits for routine safety checks and public demonstrations for public entertainment.

Can Emotional Support Animals Spread COVID-19 in Apartments?

stefan-heesch-wobqqGOq6wI-unsplash

The short answer is – No, there is no solid evidence stating that a domestic animal’s fur can carry the coronavirus from one person and infect another. Even if pets can carry the virus, it still won’t pose a high risk of infection as long as you and your pet stay 6-feet away from others while you wear a protective mask.

Apartment landlords or other rental property owners cannot reject or discriminate against a tenant who requires an emotional support or service animal. If the apartment rules do not allow animals, the property owner should ask the prospective tenant for a document from a health care provider stating that the tenant needs an ESA before letting them in.
