New Research Shows That Owning a Pet Helps a Lot to Cope-Up With Pandemic Loneliness

Between the months of April and June 2020, researchers at the University of York and the University of Lincoln conducted an online survey. The survey was attended by 5,926 of the United Kingdom’s residents with ages over 18 years. Almost 90% of the participants shared to have had at least one companion animal. In the survey, the most common pets were found to be cats and dogs then followed by small mammals and fish.

Along with the survey, it showed that owning a pet improved mental wellness among individuals while maintaining these healthy levels and lowering loneliness. “This work is particularly important at the current time as it indicates how having a companion animal in your home can buffer against some of the psychological stress associated with lockdown,” said Prof. Daniel Mills, Co-author from the School of Life Sciences at the University of Lincoln.

New Zealand Celebrates Annual Animal Blessing With a Dog Show

hannah-lim-U6nlG0Y5sfs-unsplash

Sunday is the feast of St. Francis of Assisi – the patron saint of animals and ecologists. For the goers of St. Mary’s in New Plymouth, it is the perfect day to bless the pets. The day is usually attended by a lot of pets, but with the pandemic going on, only a few came and were mostly small dogs to follow social-distancing rules.

One of the dogs in the service was Kojack, a 10-year old Hungarian Vizsla-Labrador crossbreed. It was his first service and was almost left out due to his large size. But despite being a bigger dog-class, he was allowed to be blessed because of his very laid back demeanor.

Former Law-Enforcement Officer Changes Career to Serve His Community Better

pexels-ihsan-aditya-1056467

To serve and protect isn’t just about responding to emergencies. This is what Sgt. Michellangelo “Mike” Brown thought when he left the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Jail Division to be the Animal Control Officer Supervisor for Lowndes County Animal Services.

Sgt. Brown, a former corporal, chose to protect animals and advocate for their rights. He said, “The fulfilling part of the job is keeping the community safe from aggressive domestic animals (and) investigating cruelty cases.”

What drives his passion for a career change is getting justice for abused animals. He said that he finds educating pet owners on proper pet-care while also offering resources as his newfound purpose. If you are in the Lowndes County area and have faced distressed animals or require assistance, don’t approach these animals but contact Lowndes County Animal Control (229) 671-2760 instead.

Missouri Animal Service Blessed While Following Social-Distancing Regulations

pexels-quang-nguyen-vinh-2318967

COVID-19 cannot stop the people of Springfield from thanking God for the blessing of having animal companions. In commemoration of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi the Patron Saint of Ecologists and Animals, the Christ Episcopal Church hosted a service and blessed the Springfield, Mo. Animal Service.

Those who attended remained in their cars during the service and each service animal was offered blessings once the service concluded. Music was played and gratitude was offered during the service as well.

“I am really excited about doing this (service) this year. We weren’t sure if we were going to be able to. But then we got the idea of the drive-in service. We’ve seen other churches have been doing that and we’ve thought, you know, that might just work for this blessing to the animal service,” said Mark Ohlemeier, Assistant Rector.

a-curly-brown-haired-dog-in-a-red-bow-tie

For seniors, living in care homes can be lonely and sad. To have a companion other than their hardworking family members and neighbors, having a pet is the best choice to make. But seniors would also find it hard to take care of our four-legged friends.

This is where the Joy for All Companion Pets comes in. They are a company that makes lifelike robotic dogs and cats. The best part of it? All of the robotic pets are specifically designed to provide companionship and comfort for seniors especially those suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s.

Each robot costs around $130 dollars and can be bought on pharmacies like CVS or retail platforms like Amazon.

Two Important Points to Remember When Travelling With Your Emotional Support Animal

cdc-CMhVRKI6vSY-unsplash

Preparation – Make sure you have everything you and your ESA need such as food and tickets. Consult your ticketing agency about the guaranteed travel authority your ticket allows. Study what rules are in place to your destination regarding ESAs. Read the regulations of your transport provider as well.

Update Contact Details – ESAs and owners face the risk of separation during travel. See to it that your ESA has your active contact info on their collar so that in case you get separated, the one who finds your ESA could easily inform you. You might as well let them wear a GPS collar so you can find them easily or you’ll get notified if the animal is moving away from you.

Indian Lieutenant General Pays Homage to Mules and Horses

brandenburg-gate-2072994_1920

On a bright Saturday at the ASC Centre and College, Lieutenant General Basant Kumar Repswal puts a wreath at the Animal War Memorial. The homage was paid along with the celebration of Animal Transport (AT) Remembrance Day.

The memorial signifies the role fulfilled by the horses and mules of the Indian Army in helping the Allied forces win against the Central Powers led by Germany in World War I. September 26 was chosen at AT Remembrance Day because it was on the 26th of September in 1914 that the Mule Corps landed at Marseilles.

The Mule Corps, as part of the Indian Expeditionary Force, carried supplies to support the French, British, and Allied armies.

Who is the SPCA?

pexels-pranidchakan-boonrom-1350563

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is just like any other humane society. They started with one mission in mind – To be a safe haven for neglected and abused animals. The first SPCA was in England and was known as the Royal SPCA (RSPCA) back then.

One of the SPCA’s jobs is to educate the general public about animals and not just the domesticated ones. Some of their work is also attending to animal injustices by influencing legislative efforts, offering shelter, and providing veterinary care.

They support the humane training and use of service animals for those in need. Some SPCA shelters like the American SPCA take in homeless, surrendered, and neglected dogs. Next, they medicate the curable ones and teach them social integration skills for adoption.
