Ranch Hands Rescue is an animal rescue service based in Texas. It rescues animals so these animals can help people who are victims of trauma.

Just recently, Ranch Hands Rescue adopted a puppy from a local shelter. This puppy was special because she has three legs that don’t work. She’s a 10-month old Basenji mix named Roo.

Bob Williams, Ranch Hands Rescue’s founder, said that Roo would have likely been euthanized. Now, his goal is to help Roo heal, get her prosthetic legs, and undergo 2 months of physical therapy. Currently, the ranch accepts donations for Roo’s prosthetics.

While some people question whether the intervention is worth it, Williams remains optimistic. He believes that animals that are given a chance gain back their dignity.

For years, veteran Brandon Nealeigh searched for a service dog that would help him cope with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Finally, he was able to get a 4-month old puppy named Milly. Milly helps Brandon cope with anxiety and makes him feel comfortable in crowds.

Unfortunately, Milly was stolen from Brandon’s car on a Thursday night while he took his family out for dinner and a movie. Brandon said that he made sure to feed Milly, tuck her in, and lock the car door. But when they came out after the movie, they discovered that someone tampered with the locks and Milly was nowhere to be found.

Brandon and his family began their search for Milly. They offered $1,000 as a reward. Fortunately, Milly had been found late Friday night.

Patricia Hairston of Canines for Service, an organization that trains assistance dogs, says that you should talk to the dog and ask where its owner is. This might sound like a weird advice but remember that service dogs are trained to respond to certain cues. Also, find out who the dog belongs to and contact a medic.

1. Take a hike together – Walking in nature is a win-win for everyone. It’s a great way to release your dog’s energy and will also lower your stress. Remember to keep your dog on a leash. Bring food and water.

2. Go to the pet supply store – If you’re planning to take your dog to the pet shop anyway, why not invite someone special to join you? You can have an engaging conversation about caring for pets especially if your date also happens to be a pet owner.

ROCK (Reach Out. Care. Know.), a student club at Gunn High School in Palo Alto, held an event where the high school students would be able to interact with animals from Animal Assisted Happiness. The animals included goats, chickens, bunnies, and guinea pigs.

The purpose of the event was to help take the stress off the minds of students who are about to take the final exams. Not to mention, these students will also be learning whether they’ll be selected by their dream colleges or not.

One freshman says that she feels relaxed petting a chicken instead of worrying about homework over the weekend. ROCK’s goals include building connections and promoting community building. This is the second time that the student club partnered with Animal Assisted Happiness.

Beth Johnson, a dog trainer at Ultimate Canine, introduces Gracie, a 5-month-old Australian Labradoodle. Gracie is a grief therapy dog whose role is to provide comfort to people experiencing grief due to a lost loved one. When Gracie visits a person, she can simply place her head on the person’s lap to help him relax.

Gracie was chosen to go into training when she was still 9 weeks old. Beth says that therapy dogs like Gracie also visit people in hospitals and nursing homes aside from funeral homes.
