Veteran Builds Special Friendship With Sergeant Romeo

lavon and romeo

Lavon White is an 88-year-old veteran who is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He lost the ability to speak and read when he lost his wife. He finds comfort in an emotional support dog – a little yorkie poo named Sergeant Romeo.

Romeo wakes Lavon up, and they get to eat breakfast together. Lavon was able to share about a time when Romeo had a small accident – he knocked over some water and came running. While Lavon has difficulty with speech, you can see that he tells Romeo’s story with love.

Lavon gets the care he needs at home through Home Instead Senior Care. His primary caregiver, Chuck Howard, shares how animals give people a sense of independence. Although Romeo helps Lavon in his daily life, Lavon is also there to care for Romeo.
