The 3 Most Affectionate Dog Breeds to Drown You With Love

pexels-svetlana-ruskova-4065651

Pomsky – A crossbreed of a Pomeranian and a Siberian Husky. This dog is a culmination of fluffiness, playfulness, and loyalty that you can find in a dog. After all, who doesn’t like a tiny ball of fur licking and kissing you when you feel the blues?

Chihuahua – The chihuahua may be known to be an incessant barker but that’s only the case to other people. When you are alone with a chihuahua, it can be as angelic as you can imagine. It will find a way to make skin contact with you like sleeping on your head or inserting itself in your armpits while you sit on the couch.

Pug – There’s a reason why a pug’s face is bred to be like that. It’s for the sole purpose of being a lapdog. Its lapdog personality is so strong that it makes its life calling to interact with you all the time – even to the point of you being mildly irritated.

Another Angel Finds Find Her Home

Chloe Chase and her boyfriend, Travis Bradley are one of the many locals in Florida who applied for pet adoption. For a year, they had searched for a dog online. Then, they followed the Instagram account of the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando.

They first discovered a pregnant 5-year-old Hound Mix named Dulce. But she gave birth to eight pups after the pandemic struck. Then they set their sights on a puppy named Fudge, who had already been adopted by the time they received the Zoom call from Pet Alliance.

From that point, they settled on wanting any dog from the adoption shelter and found an 8-week-old female named Stella. “We took a leap of faith, but Pet Alliance was really supportive during the whole process,” said Chloe.

Man Faces Natural Disasters to Save Animals

Brandon Riffe is the president and founder of the Animal Disaster Relief Coalition (ADRC). On days where he doesn’t work with local animal rescue organizations, he goes into disaster zones to help affected livestock, wildlife, and household pets.

Riffe has been rescuing disaster-struck animals even before he found his organization. One of his experiences includes saving animals when Hurricane Florence damaged the country back in 2018. Since then, he increased his rescue efforts by establishing the ADRC.

“I rode the storm out in New Iberia, Louisiana. That was the first category four storm that I have ever ridden out in my life. It was an experience for sure. From there, we moved into Lake Charles, which got the eye of the storm,” said Riffe in an interview with the Bluefield Daily Telegraph.

Life of a Guide Dog Under Training

Nacho is a Golden Retriever born in May of 2019. She has lived with the Beydagi family since she was three-months-old. For eighteen months, she was taught basic socializing and training skills by the family.

Golden Retrievers and Labradors are usually chosen to be service dogs because these breeds are easy to train, intelligent, trustworthy, and loyal. Ece Beydagy said, “She (Nacho) has made great strides, and now understands basic commands like sit, stay, wait, and the like.”

After the guide dog in training has learned all the basic skills, they will now go to their trainers for 12 weeks. There, they will be taught responsibility and trained to be guide dogs for the visually impaired.

Fundraising for Animal Shelters Through a Game of Golf

More than 60 golfers went to Mill Run Golf Course last Saturday (August 29, 2020). But they weren’t talking about business or having a weekend outing. They were having a fundraiser through golf and was held by All Paws Pet Wash, a local business.

The aim was to raise $10,000 for the Eau Claire County Humane Association, the Chippewa County Humane Association, and Bob’s House for Dogs. “We’ve been so blessed for being in Eau Claire and having the opportunity to have that many people come out and participate, we’ve been so excited to have that availability for everybody and still doing it in a safe manner,” said Keith Caldwell, president of the pet wash business.

Caldwell has a soft spot for animals. When he lost his dog years ago, he was inspired to create All Paws Pet Wash which started in 2009.

In a foreign mission, Kuno the Belgian Malinois was deployed with the Royal Navy’s Special Boat Service along with his handler last 2019. The mission was to conduct a raid on a compound when they were under attack from enemy forces.

During the battle, Kuno rushed under machinegun-fire and grenade explosions from an insurgent for a tackle. This resulted in a successful mission. Kuno however, received bullet wounds on both back legs during the assault.

One of his limbs had to be amputated before going back to the UK. He is the first UK military working dog to receive custom-made prosthetic limbs. His dedication to the service allowed him to receive the PDSA Dickin Medal – the highest honor for animals.

Californian Canine Service Opens More Offers

pexels-helena-lopes-4408935

Good Dog! Autism Companions has changed their business name into Good Dog! Service Canines. This is because the Fallbrook-based canine service is now aiming to serve more than just families and children with Autism.

Last August 14, 2020, four families received newly graduated dogs along with the rebranding announcement. The dogs are the first to don the rebranded name and vest of the canine service. Even with the pandemic going on, the graduation still continued via Zoom.

The event was attended virtually by donors, volunteers, friends, and families of both the service organization and the receiving families. Ever since the organization was founded in 2011, Good Dog! has provided families all over the United States with 55 service dogs.

Increase of Service Dog Availability for War Vets

a-white-little-dog-in-a-flowery-scarf

Last August 5, 2020, Darren Chester, the Minister to the Department of Veterans Affairs announced the increase of psychiatric assistance dogs for veterans. The program started last 2019 and is called the Government’s Psychiatric Assistance Dog Program.

Its aim was to help veterans in handling their PTSD and other traumas. Two organizations led to the increase of service dog availability, the Royal Society for the Blind of South Australia, and Integra Service Dogs Australia.

As Darren Chester said, “We have seen the positive outcomes from this program with veterans already sharing a special bond with their psychiatric assistance dogs, making a remarkable difference to their everyday life. These dogs are specially trained to perform specific tasks to help their owner when experiencing symptoms of PTSD, such as a night terror, and helping veterans to reach their clinical recovery goals.”

If You Don’t Have an Emotional Support Dog, Get an Emotional Support Hamster Instead

kim-green-D_pXn7cueOs-unsplash

Three weeks ago Paula Andropoulos went to a pet shop in Norwood, Johannesburg. She was determined to look for a cure on something that ailed her – lockdown fatigue without a direction. The cure that she was looking for wasn’t a drug or something that adults would normally use.

It was a hamster. A ball of fur with fat cheeks and a huge appetite. It was something she could focus on and indulge in without the risk of being hurt. Or “Something I could look after without incurring enormous expense, or irrevocably altering the conveniently plastic quality of my existence,” as she said.

She is going back to her usual self. The trip to the pet shop and the hamster she got is her proof.

When an Accident Turns Into a Clever Clean-Up Campaign

When Buddy the Cockapoo cut his paw after he trod on glass, his owner, Becky Baker, had an idea to prevent such an unfortunate thing from happening again. She started K9Nation, a dog-friendly and networking platform.

The aim of the platform was to promote tidying up of public areas by inviting dog owners to join the K9CleanUp movement. A fundraising event is also part of the plan. Those who join the movement are shared with K9CleanUp kits through the K9Nation site.

“We wanted to give dog owners the chance to take part in something that can really make a difference to the surroundings where we live, as well as helping dogs,” Said Becky.
